4 law enforcement officers shot in York County

Four law enforcement officers - three sheriff's deputies and one police officer - were shot in York County, South Carolina, Monday night, authorities said.

Three more officers were shot after they continued the search for McCall. He was driven to the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill in another officer's auto.

Two officers were flown to CMC-Main and another was taken to the same hospital by a vehicle. McCall, as well as two deputies and the York officer, were injured in that shootout. An ambulance transported the third, Farris explained.

The suspect, identified in a news conference as Christian Thomas McCall, 47, was taken into custody after fleeing the scene on foot.

In the wake of moving toward the area, where, specialists said later, a man was supposedly striking a lady, the appointees requested neighbors to remain inside and after that exchanged shots with the suspect in a standoff that kept going a few hours.

"We could really use your prayers and thoughts for those officers right now", Faris said at an earlier news conference.

According to the York County Solicitor, McCall is being charged with three counts of attempted murder for the shootings of Sgt. Clinton, Sgt. York Police Chief Andy Robinson said Sgt. Cummings was out surgery and is expected to be OK. One was recovering from surgery, and the others either were undergoing or awaiting surgery, he said.

According to SLED spokesman Thom Berry, one of the agency's helicopters "was hit by gunfire but (was) still able to land". However, SLED made a decision to wait on Doty's condition before proceeding.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., McCall fired again, and officers returned fire, Faris said.

York is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Charlotte.

Domestic violence call leads to shooting.

McCall has a 1994 arrest on his record from Florence County, S.C. Obviously he will be facing a litany of charges in connection with this incident.

SLED agents and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police participated in the search.
