Last week, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda confirmed that Eidos Montréal had put a Deus Ex sequel on hold to work on a Tomb Raider followup and a couple other games. We will have to wait and see if Crystal Dynamics - series developer since Tomb Raider: Legend - will be developing this game as well, or if a new studio will take the reins.
All in all, the new entry will be the rebooted Tomb Raider franchises' third game.
Part of the reason that today's announcement is light on details is that Square Enix is "taking a new approach this time" with its rollout plan. Either way, keep an eye out for more news about Shadow of the Tomb Raider next year - it's sure to be one of the biggest titles in its lineup.

Again, the message itself seems rather ordinary if only a bit cryptic in leaving out when or what this "major event in 2018" will be. With Rise of the Tomb Raider having been thoroughly enjoyed since its 2015 launch, fans have begun to wonder what's next for the young Croft.
The move is part of an effort to "put fans first", as they await the official reveal of what they call Lara's "defining adventure".
The film will debut in theaters on March 16, 2018.
Square Enix's next Tomb Raider game has yet to be confirmed for launch on any platforms, and does not now have a release date.
