Manhattan DA says gun law passed in Congress endangers public safety

Schumer noted that the proposed legislation would create serious problems for law enforcement officers across NY and in the five boroughs, especially when it comes to verifying permits granted by other states, because there is no national database.

As it is, states with strong gun control laws must contend with the easy flow of guns from states with lax laws. They also say that, under the legislation, gun owners will only have to abide by requirements of the most lenient states.

A bill that would allow Kansas residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit in any state has passed the U.S. House with the support of all four Kansas representatives.

"Republicans are inviting violent criminals, domestic abusers, convicted stalkers, and those who have never undergone a background check or received any gun safety training the green light to carry their concealed weapons wherever they want", she added.

"California has tight restrictions on concealed carry".

NY has some of the strongest gun laws in the country. Currently, concealed permits are not valid between state lines.

The measure will need a handful of Democrats' support to pass the Senate. In other words, it treats a concealed permit like a driver's license, ensuring that law-abiding citizens are armed so they can defend themselves and their families when criminals and/or terrorists attack.

Republicans said it allows gun owners to travel freely between states without worrying about conflicting state laws or civil suits. Some states already have concealed carry reciprocity and it has had deadly consequences.

Apparently, ignorance of the law - at least when it came to concealed-carry gun laws - was a legitimate excuse.

"New York City's well-recognized success in the continued decrease in shootings and murder is in no small part a result of effective control of guns on our streets", said NYPD Commissioner James P. O'Neill.

"It would eviscerate state gun laws across the country and make it easy for people with unsafe histories and no training" to bring their concealed weapons across state lines, Andrew Zucker, a spokesperson for the gun violence prevention network, Everytown For Gun Safety, told AFP. But when it comes to carrying concealed weapons, these same Republicans are singing a different tune.

Gooze says she doesn't know why she didn't run, even though she had opportunities.

"Concealed Carry Reciprocity" would make those weakest links the law of the land.
