HP, Asus announce first Windows 10 ARM PCs

Just that the NovaGo is running a mobile processor does not put the device into isolation. At the launch, three designs were briefly announced from HP, Acer, and Lenovo, from which the HP Envy x360 with the Ryzen 5 2500U is now available for sale (we're awaiting our review sample).

The Snapdragon 845 is (wait for it!) a direct successor to the Snapdragon 835, which can be found lingering inside devices like the Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, Pixel 2, and Moto Z2 Force.

Besides an always-on PC and huge battery life, one of the other benefits of a Snapdragon processor is that no cooling fan is required, so the Envy x2 will always be free of annoying fan noise.

See Qualcomm's sizzle reel for the processor below.

Contrary to what you might expect, the new Windows 10 ARM computers don't look hugely different from their Intel counterparts.

Gone are the days of a USB dongle to add mobile data as the NovaGo offers Gigabit LTE thanks to the Qualcomm modem. The device with 4GB RAM and 64GB SSD will be available for $599, the one with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD for $799.

Being always connected wherever I am whether I am in the auto, airport or coffee shop, always being connected just feels like the most natural, safe and secure way to work with teams and be creative.

However, the 845 is also likely to appear in a host of "Always Connected" Windows 10 laptops like the ASUS and HP convertibles also announced today.

Asus says the NovaGo will last for a whopping 22 hours of video playback, which outpaces Intel rivals by at least five hours.

Both of these devices will come preinstalled with Windows 10 S but will allow for a one-time upgrade to a full Windows 10 license which will allow users to install non-Windows store applications.

Qualcomm promised higher battery life when it announced the endeavor to create Always On Windows devices with its Snapdragon 835 SoC, and if Asus and HP's claims are true, these devices certainly appear to deliver on that promise.

The screen flips 360 degrees and supports a stylus.

There's no word yet on the pricing or availability for the Asus NovaGo, but HP said that the Envy x2 would be arriving in the United Kingdom in February, starting at £999 with a keyboard and active pen included.
