The victor of Thursday's UNCW-Presbyterian game advances to the second round on Sunday and will face North Carolina, which earned the No. 3 national seed.

The last time the Spartans earned a first-round bye was in 2014 when MSU was the overall No. 3 seed. Sunday's match will mark the ninth time in the last eight seasons and the 11th time in the last 11 years Louisville has hosted at least one NCAA Championship match.

The field includes nine ACC teams. Notre Dame (2013), IN (1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2012), North Carolina (2001, 2011), Wake Forest (2007), Virginia (2009, 2014) and Stanford (2015, 2016) are all seeded IN this year's tournament, with recent champions Maryland (2005, 2008) and Akron (2010) also IN the 2017 field. The third round is slated for November 25 and November 26, while the quarterfinals will take place December 1 and December 2.
