The stabbing at Macy's in the Mall of America Sunday night was an isolated incident and the mall is committed to the safety of its customers, said officials with the Mall of America in a statement Monday.

Bloomington Police officer Jeff Potts said late Sunday that two people were stabbed and the suspect was taken into custody.

Local police told reporters the suspect had attempted to steal from a man in the fitting rooms before stabbing him and a male relative who was trying to help.

This is a breaking story. When the victim returned to the dressing room, he confronted the suspect, and was stabbed.

Others in the party disarmed and restrained Abdiraham until police arrived, according to police. "Our thoughts are with the families involved".

Cops wrote on Twitter that the suspect, who was also injured, was taken into custody. Authorities say both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries. "By the time we got to the main area - the men's department is to the right - more police started running in with their guns drawn".

"My daughter could see people lying on the ground who had been stabbed", Kim Schwieters, who was waiting to see St. Nick with her three children, said.
