Amazon launches Echo, Alexa in Canada

As a quick recap, the Echo Dot is the cheapest of all three, while the Echo is smaller and features a removable shell that can come in different materials.

Speaking of skills, Amazon says that Canadian residents should expect 10,000 skills to be available by year's end, including those from Air Canada, TD Bank, TELUS, CBC, The Weather Channel, and more. Amazon Prime Music has launched for Canadian users as well.

Amazon's Echo line of smart speakers (powered by the AI assistant Alexa) was the first to market, but only in the U.S. and the UK.

The Amazon Echo has forged a new category of device, beating the likes of Google, Microsoft and Apple into this connected space, and offering a device that's not only convenient, but a lot of fun too, because it's so simple to use.

Echo Plus - The recently-introduced sequel to the original Echo features all the Alexa features, plus ZigBee wireless smart home connections.

"Tens of millions of customers are already using Alexa, and today we're excited to bring her to Canada with an experience designed from the ground up for our Canadian customers", said Tom Taylor, Senior Vice President, Amazon Alexa, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada. Interestingly, even though Alexa now has a Canadian English voice, there was no mention of a Canadian French option. Alexa will also be available for a third party product which supports Alexa.

Also launching today is Prime Music, which brings over 1 million ad-free songs free for Prime members, which you can listen to on any Echo device, which includes offline listening.
