Following the ANI report, information and broadcasting minister Smriti Irani took to Twitter to question the authenticity of retweets. "I want to thank them for their cooperation on many fronts" tweet and caption "Modi ji quick; looks like President Trump needs another hug" has been retweeted more than 30,000 times so far. The Union Minister Smriti Irani said that the Congress leader cannot win the Gujarat Assembly election with these attempts and further wished the Rahul Gandhi on the occasion of the Gujarati New Year.

News Agency ANI put out a story this morning, questioning whether Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's twitter followers were automated ones "mass retweeting" his posts.

"The people are completely aware that this is what the problem with this country is and the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi)'s false promises. people have lost patience".

As on Friday, Gandhi has 3.81 million followers and 3,352 tweets. Activist Tehseen Poonawalla pointed out how among those who retweeted Modi's tweets also included an escort agency.

"In sports, this would come under "Doping". hey wait! does "dope" remind you of someone", tweeted Rajyavardhan Rathore, MoS (independent) for youth affairs and sports.

Divyaspandana responded to Smriti Iran saying, "Why do we need them when we have you?" She added that the story was "factually wrong" and that it was an attempt to "please the I&B ministry and the Bots Janata Party".

The BJP alleged that Twitterbots, or fake accounts, located outside India were behind the recent rise in Rahul's popularity on the social media platform. The issues Singh mentioned included "corruption of Shah-zada", regarding the allegations against Amit Shah's son's business, "the issues of farmers, issue of censorship of a Tamil movie, issue of joblessness in the country". Why are they not answering. Why are they not answering questions raised by him (Gandhi) about farmers?

Fake Twitter followers and "bots" going on Retweet frenzies is not a new phenomenon.

Sources say Mullappally Ramachandran, MP from Kerala, who heads the CEA, has already handed over a tentative schedule to Sonia Gandhi.
