Having firmly established himself as a promising director in the Malayalam film firmament in the late seventies, he also went on to make successful films in other languages like Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. I V Sasi started his film career as an art director.
Some of his well-known blockbusters include Alkoottathil Thaniye, Kanamarayathu, Aksharangal and Vadakaykkoru Hrudayam, Itha Ivide Vare, Angadi, Ee Nadu, Vartha, Devasuram and Avanazhi.
I.V Sasi played a key role in turning actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Jayan, Sukumaran, Soman, Vincent and Seema into stars.

With over 150 movies to his credit, Sasi made a mark in the industry through the path breaking movie Avalude Ravukal, a sympathetic look at the life of a sex worker. During 1970-2000, the director was in his prominence and directed numerous films in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam. He has also worked with Mammootty for multiple movies including "Thrishna" and "Mrugaya".
Sasi's magic last worked in 2003 when "Balram Vs Tharadas" met with reasonable success.
This filmmaker dominated Malayalam cinema through his creative partnerships with some of the most celebrated writers of the time such as Jnanpith laureate MT Vasudevan Nair and other great Malayalam storytellers of the time such as T Damodaran and P Padmarajan. Actor Mamukkoya remembered Sasi as a man who breathed and live cinema.
In a career spanning close to four decades in which he also helmed some Tamil and Hindi projects, Sasi directed almost 150 films.
The Hindi film Karishma was a remake of Bharatiraja's Tik Tik Tik and IV Sasi proved he could adapt his South Indian style to newer platforms in Hindi cinema.
