Neighbors and church members who arrived after an Amber Alert was issued on Saturday told KTVT little Sherin was adopted from India. Richardson Police say she was last seen in the family's backyard around 3 a.m., but wasn't reported missing until hours later.

He returned 15 minutes to check on the child but she was missing, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Police in this Dallas suburb are still looking for a missing child. Mathews was punishing his daughter for not drinking her milk, cops said.

Sherin Mathews' father, Wesley Mathews is charged with child endangerment. He is in jail on a $250,000 bond. Mathews told investigators it wasn't unusual for the girl to wake up late at night to eat so that her weight would increase, Perlich said. She said CPS had been involved with the family before, but didn't elaborate on how. He told police he knew coyotes had been seen in the alley where he left her, according to an affidavit.

Sherin Matthews is described as approximately three feet tall, with dark skin and hair, weighing about 22 pounds. They have also arrested the girl's father. When she disappeared, she was wearing a pink top and black pajama bottoms.

Jose Cherian, a church elder, issued a public plea for anyone who may have the toddler, asking the person to bring her back and "report" to Richardson police.
