Pak PM meets USA vice President today on UNGA sidelines


The United States suggested Vice President Pence's meeting with Abbasi as part of their efforts "to re-engage with Pakistan".

Khan took a dig at his own party's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Ali Abbasi and said no one had objections to "in-house cleaning" but government officials should stick to taking concrete steps instead of issuing statements.

Vice-President of GE called on PM Abbasi in NY on Tuesday, reiterating the company's commitment to expand business in Pakistan.

Extraordinary security arrangements have been put in place in around the UN Headquarters in NY ahead of the high-level session in which US President Donald Trump will deliver his maiden speech at the United Nations on Tuesday.

"If Trump does not have time for Pakistan, then Pakistan is short of it as well".

Pakistan Ambassador to the UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi talking to Pakistani journalists here on Sunday said the Pence-Abbasi talks are likely to take place on Tuesday.

He also said that the government was not satisfied with the ongoing accountability drive.

The Assembly has 174 items on its agenda after a new item was inscribed on Friday.

Gen Bajwa was responding to questions by members of defence committees of the National Assembly and Senate who visited General Headquarters (GHQ) yesterday.

"The enemy's narrative is strengthened when government officials issue public statements on internal issues", he said, adding that these actions will weaken Pakistan's position internationally.

Besides, the prime minister will hold a number of bilateral meetings with world leaders including the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the US Vice President Mike Pence on the sidelines of the session.

Meanwhile he will also address the Council on Foreign Relations and interact with the US-Pakistan Business Council.

Prior to leaving for the United States where he will attend the UNGA session, the prime minister held an hour-long meeting with Nawaz Sharif.
