Mund was named the victor out of 51 contestants - one from each state plus the District of Columbia - who competed to take the place of outgoing Miss America, Savvy Shields, formerly Miss Arkansas.

"It was a big night for Miss North Dakota, #Cara Mund, as she was crowned "#Miss America 2018" in Atlantic City, besting 50 other candidates for the title.

Wood replied: "I think that the white supremacist issue, it was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack, and I think that President Donald Trump should have made a statement earlier addressing the fact and of making sure all Americans feel safe in this country". She is the official hostess for the State of Louisiana and spokesperson for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Vantage Health Plan, Propane Dealers of Louisiana and the Louisiana Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

And Miss New Jersey, Kaitlyn Schoeffel, was asked her thoughts on removing Confederate monuments. "I said, "If Carson Wentz can do it, Miss North Dakota Cara Mund can become Miss America, '" she said". "I do believe it's a bad decision", she said.

She says there's "evidence that climate change is existing". And that's something we really need to keep in mind.

The 2017 Miss America pageant was not so much about empowering women as it was bashing President Trump.

In the days before she was crowned, Mund encouraged her supporters to take action. The Ivy League honors graduate, who has a business degree from Brown University, has worked in the U.S. Senate as an internee.

Approaching the water, she waded in with bare feet, then jumped and smiled for the cameras, checking each time to see if her crown was still on her head. "Despite the circumstances, she's always told me, you can't control the cards you're dealt, but you can control the hand", Mund said during the event.

She is indeed the true victor because not just on stage but in real life also she overcame every defeat when she said that she has been diagnosed 3 times with cancer. Miss North Dakota's compassionate attitude is reflected in her pageant platform: "A Make-A-Wish Passion with Fashion".

"Honestly? It was to get to Miss America and make it past the Top 10", Mund said.

Mund, 23, was one of 51 contestants in the pageant, representing the 50 United States and the District of Columbia.

But she expressed concern and support for friends and strangers endangered by Hurricane Irma, which was tearing its way up the Florida gulf coast on Sunday.

Miss Texas Margana Wood gave a shout-out to her flooded hometown, Houston; she won Wednesday night's swimsuit preliminary. "They ruined the Miss America pageant with political correctness".

The victor will take over for the current titleholder, Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields of Arkansas.
