Apple has also recently announced the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3 and 4K Apple TV. For people who aren't used to spending more than $700 to $800 for a phone, this can be far more than their wallet can afford. IHS Markit also estimates that the iPhone 8 bill of materials is $247.51, or $9.57 higher than the iPhone 7 at the time of release.
While OLED displays are generally more power-efficient than traditional LCD displays, the power draw of the iPhone X's 5.8-inch display is probably larger than the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus - with their 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens, respectively. Apple says the phones have new Retina displays with True Tone technology, faster processors, dramatically improved cameras, new glass-backed designs, support for wireless charging, and more. Don't be surprised if those buyers pass on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus and opt to wait for iPhone X sales to begin before throwing their hard-earned money at Apple.

"The higher total BOM cost for the iPhone 8 Plus can't be tied to a single area or feature". Apple's listed tech specs for the iPhone X claims that the handset can deliver up to 21 hours of talk time, up to 12 hours of internet use, up to 13 hours of playback and up to 60 hours of audio playback.

That amount of memory is widely considered to be overkill, given the requirements of the smartphone, but it'll be interesting to see how the iPhone X stands up in terms of multitasking.
