We Knew Neymar Would Leave - Barcelona President

"If he decides to remain at the club, we will have a great player and if he leaves we will get his whole buyout clause paid in full". That is why the Catalans want to withhold this sum, because Neymar played only one of the five contract years in Barcelona, agreed in October 2016.

"Although he doesn't agree with the value (of 8 million) the process has dragged on for more than three years and the intention is to end it and move on to this new phase for Neymar", said Marcos Neder, one of the player's lawyers. But, he could find himself going down the pecking order at Parc des Princes, with PSG signing Neymar while also eyeing a move for Kylian Mbappe.

PSG's capture of Neymar is meant to turn the Ligue 1 side, who finished second behind Monaco in Ligue 1 last season, into genuine contenders to win the Champions League, but Klopp stressed there is more to the sport than signing star players.

According to reports in the Spanish press on Saturday, Messi has now encouraged his side to go in for Di Maria, and bring the winger back to La Liga.

Hence, the Barcelona boss has been left scrambling in search of a top replacement for Neymar. Barcelona have been long-time admirers of the Argentine's talents, having attempted to sign him on two occasions previously. They just set that amount randomly.

Barcelona, though, face a big stumbling block in their pursuit of the player as their relationship with PSG is now at its lowest ebb.

Di Maria may also be willing to move to the Camp Nou to play alongside his global teammates Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano.

This could be an ideal move for Di Maria and PSG if they are convinced to sell.
