Gina Prince-Bythewood directs the female-centered film.

The film, featuring Marvel anti-heroes Silver Sable and Black Cat, is set to release on February 8 2019, just a week shy of whatever Fox has planned for the X-Men around Valentine's Day. According to Deadline, the screenplay for Bad Boys 3 is still being worked on and Will Smith still has interest in the project. Blackcat is a skilled burglar who was originally a super-villain but ended up falling in love with Spider-Man.

In the comic books, Silver Sable is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals.

However, because of the underwhelming box office performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, those plans fell through and left Sony reaching a deal with Marvel Studios to reboot the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Do you think that Sony is confident in their new spinoffs?

The studio has also pulled Bad Boys sequel Bad Boys for Life from the schedule (it was previously set for November 9, 2018).

In other news, Stefano Sollima's Soldado, the sequel to Denis Villeneuve's haunting crime drama Sicario, has been slated for June 29th, 2018, taking that date from Barbie, which is moving to August 8th, 2018. Alethea Jones is still set to direct with Anne Hathaway playing the title doll from Mattel. The film, which hopes to re-team Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, had previously been scheduled for November 9, 2018, but the release has now been pushed to an unknown date. Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and writer Taylor Sheridan return for the follow-up to the 2015 thriller. Silver has also has had several run-ins with Spider-Man.
