Shopian operation continues as two jawans martyred, three terrorists killed


"Two army personnel were killed and three others wounded in an ongoing encounter in Awneera village here", a police official posted in Shopian said.

Irate crowds clashed with the security forces at several places in the area during and after the encounter.

Earlier in the day, a joint cordon and search operation were conducted by the security forces, which were well planned as we trapped three terrorist in that area. "Two security personnel martyred, while three injured".

Reports said that hundreds of people tried to save the militants but forces kept them at bay.

Heavy stone pelting has been reported on the spot.

In the morning on Sunday, police control room Shopian said that a house in which militants were hiding had been blown up. Later, all the three terrorists were successfully gunned down by the forces. News agency ANI quoted the state's senior superintendent of police as saying that one militant had been killed. Two injured soldiers later succumbed to critical injuries.

Five army soldiers were injured in the gunfight. This prompted the security forces to wait till dawn while keeping a tight cordon around the area before launching a major strike.

Reportedly, seven civilians had sustained pellet injuries during the clashes.

Meanwhile, authorities have directed telecom authorities to block mobile Internet services in Budgam district.

The youth identified as Umar Majid Sheikh, Adil Malik and Irfan Sheikh were martyred by troops during a siege and search operation in Awneera area of the district.
