Mourinho says Man Utd still in the market for a winger

Having signed on a one-year deal, the Swede was subsequently released in the summer as United were not prepared to continue paying a hefty salary to a player they couldn't use; however, there was always the suggestion that he would sign a short term deal once he proved his fitness, and the United manager confirmed that there have been conversations.

"I just think that naturally, a manager in the second season knows the players and knows the club better". He has put his trust in me and in my work, and I was very grateful to him.

"Yes, we can (win the title), Europa League is not Champions League, obviously it is more difficult to win the Champions League than the Europa League but also motivation is higher, also my hard work last season to motivate the Europa League with ambition and commitment and responsibility, my work was hard at that level".

Although there was speculation that issue might have ended his career, agent Mino Raiola was quick to quash speculation and revealed that his client was open to a stay in England after scoring 17 times in his first Premier League season. His next job, in Italy, saw Mourinho win a coveted treble, including the Champions League, in 2010, his second year with Inter Milan.

But Mourinho believes there are as many as seven candidates to challenge for Chelsea's crown in the coming campaign.

"But we have lost important players to injury too, such as Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic".

This is, after all, what the majority thought this time past year.

Asked if full-back was an area he was happy with or looking to strengthen, Mourinho said: "You know 25 per cent means one of four". "I would say seven teams fight for the title and 20 to fight for victory every match. Last season, two of them were not in Europe", Mourinho said.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic said: "It's not ideal playing there first game of the season, but on the other hand, it is brilliant and one of the greatest away games in the league". If the remaining 25% don't arrive I will not moan, I will just go with everything I have to try to win every match I play.

"But we are involved in four competitions and step by step, match after match we are going to fight".

"We have [bought] three players, as you know".
