Manchester United in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over new deal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that he will not "moan or cry" if the club do not sign any more players this summer.

Ibrahimovic was a huge success last season after arriving on a free transfer from Paris, before an injury late in the season ruled him out of the Europa League Final.

It meant that United were unable to offer Ibrahimovic, 35, a new contract when his one-year deal ran out at the end of June, but he has stayed on good terms with the club and continued to work on his rehabilitation at the club's Carrington training base. It's not something that's urgent, it's not desperate to have it done or not.

"I understand the reality of the numbers, and I also understand that my club, by doing 75% of what I initially asked, I think the club did very well, so I don't think I am in a position of crying, I am in a position of moaning, I am in a position of protesting, I am not in a position to say I am not happy with". Our levels of confidence and knowledge are higher so I am happy to start the season.

The club moved quickly to bring in three of those positions, but they remain without a winger after Inter Milan played hard ball over a fee for Croatian schemer Ivan Perisic.

"We got a central midfielder, we got a striker".

"But we have players and if we cannot strengthen the team in these areas, we have people that we can trust and we go for it". "I think it's the objective of every one of the top teams and every one of the top team managers", he said.

Mourinho goes into his second season at Old Trafford needing significant improvement in the Premier League after United finished sixth in May.

The ex-Chelsea boss threw his winners' medal into the crowd following their Premier League triumph in 2006 and also gave away his medal following the 2015 Community shield.

"Europa League is not Champions League", he said.

"But we are involved in four competitions and step by step, match after match we are going to fight".
