WhatsApp could a "floating pencil button" above the camera icon under the Status tab.
Facebook, which launched vividly colourful status background in Android in late 2016 and later to iOS, is now planning to bring the same to its messenger application: WhatsApp. It was a year ago in December, when Facebook rolled out its coloured text status feature. It lets users add background colours to text-only posts, and doesn't work for links, image, or video posts. This will allow the users to design interesting coloured text status.
WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature which is like Facebook's colour text status.More news: China calls for halt to US THAAD deployment in South Korea

According to the reports, the colourful text status will be available as a part of WhatsApp beta version 2.17.291 and it will be available only to those who have enrolled to the social messaging app's official Play Store beta program. It was only available to celebrities and eminent personalities and was later rolled out for regular users as well. The report notes that this is probably a server-side test, which means the feature might not necessarily be available for all even if they're on the latest version of the app. After you've typed your text and messed with those to find your ideal fit, you tap the green send button to post it as your status. This includes white, yellow, yellow and orange gradient, red-orange, green and blue gradient and, more.
The report also highlights that the feature was rolled out in February and so far has managed to bag more than 250 million daily active users. Perhaps WhatsApp hopes it will convince people to start using those new statuses more - 99% of my friends don't bother with them and I've heard the same from lots of people. The app is used by millions, and by bringing payment service onboard it is aiming to make online transaction extremely simple and easy.
