JLS' Aston Merrygold Signs Up For 'Strictly Come Dancing'

Former JLS star Aston Merrygold is the eighth celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Talk about making the most of a bad situation, the five solo singers who failed to make it into the pop group on "Popstars" chose to cut their losses and form their own group.

But can he dance?

He gushed: "I am so excited, terrified and proud to be invited to be part of Strictly 2017".

The BBC programme's official Twitter page also announced the news with the northerner revealing he is a "HUUUUGE" fan of the show. "I'm more ballroom than latin".

Aston joins Simon Rimmer, Joe McFadden, Reverend Richard Coles, Gemma Atkinson, Ruth Langsford, Davood Ghadami and Mollie King who have also been confirmed for the new series. And on Saturday (12Aug17), Holby City star Joe was the latest name to be revealed for the show.

The singer revealed that he wants to win the dancing crown this year.

He said: "I'm so happy to be joining "Strictly Come Dancing" 2017".

Aston is best known for being part of British boy band JLS. Other rumoured contestants to participate in this year's contest include comedian Brian Conley, singer Matt Goss, and Dame Joan Collins.

There's also X Factor victor Alexandra Burke, Paralympian Ellie Simmonds, Robot Wars host Angela Scanlon, Bros singer Matt Goss, comic Joel Dommett and marathon runner Paula Radcliffe.

That's fighting talk if ever we heard it, so fingers crossed Alexandra is one of the names announced in the next week.

Strictly Come Dancing will start on BBC One in September.
