In jolt to opposition, NCP skips crucial meet


To bolster its joint parliamentary strategy, the opposition has made a decision to come up with a small group which will coordinate with all the opposition leaders, discuss issues and come up with a plan of what should be raised in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. The party, which returned to power in May 2013 after a decade in the opposition, will contest the assembly election on the basis of its performance over the last four years, including various welfare schemes for the people across the state, he said.

"Summary: A meeting of state-level senior leaders of both the parties was called at Vidhan Bhavan, but senior NCP leaders gave it a miss", said the Congress leader. The Congress, however, said NCP supremo Sharad Pawar had communicated his inability to attend due to ill health.

"I would not like to comment much about this situation as it is their problem. This is the difference between us".

Gandhi said when the Congress-led government was at the Centre, every year minimum support price (MSP) on crops used to increase by about 15 per cent, but after BJP came to power it has been increasing only by two to three per cent. Gandhi said, "When you waive the loan of India's ten richest Industrialists, they don't become lazy, but when you waive farmers loan they will become lazy".

"We are helping farmers and weaker sections wherever we can, but they only speak and make hollow and false promises", he added. If Congress leader Narayan Rane quit the party with his son and couple of supporting legislators, it will dip the Congress strength in the lower house giving an opportunity to the NCP to claim the post , As Reported By Hindustan Times. Azad said the parties were told to take independent decisions on joining the rally.

"Farmers know that only Congress can help them and youth in India have understood that Narendra Modi canot provide employment to them".

After the repeated defeats at the hands of the BJP in a series of elections and the party's aggressive push to establish footprints in non-BJP ruled states through other means, the Opposition leaders are working around the "unite or perish" principle.
