Earlier this week, Bandai Namco Europe had published an English teaser of a brand-new game codenamed Projekt 1514, and not much information was divulged other than a mysterious FB logo, and that this game is being developed by Dimps. With hindsight, it was nearly obvious, but of course hindsight is 20/20.

For those familiar with the anime, the phrase Gun Gale Online should be instantly recognizable and is the obvious setting for a shooter passed video game adaptation of the popular series.

Right now all we know is that it's coming to PC in "early 2018" but as always, we'll keep you posted. It's actually the very first Sword Art Online game on Microsoft's console (and on PC), probably fruit of Phil Spencer's trip to Japan a few months ago. While the game is set in the Gun Gale Online arc, it will not adapt the story from the anime or visual novel and will instead have an original all-new story written by the series creator Reki Kawahara himself. Quite possibly, being a shooter, Bandai Namco might have felt that it was suitable for the Xbox audience.

The story reportedly changes based on players choices and there is both co-operative and competitive multiplayer including 4v4 matches.

The press release from Bandai Namco also provided a few bullet points and an official description to give you more color on what the game is all about. Step into the versatile landscapes and environments of Gun Gale Online. This game is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 and its genre will combine TPS (Third Person Shooting) with RPG. Based on the names, this is where the whole sword/gun action hybrid comes into play. "Fatal Bullet" brings over the RPG elements seen in previous titles like "Hollow Realization" and "Lost Song", but the focus has been completely shifted to gun play.
