BMW M5 Unveiled With 600 PS, AWD and RWD

Official U.S. specs haven't been made public, but BMW announced that without pesky humans, the overseas M5 would weigh about 4,090 pounds. The M-customized xDrive system starts out in all-wheel drive mode when you first start the auto up, complete with all the electronic Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) nannies activated.

The revised 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 offers 592bhp and 553lb-ft of torque, a substantial increase on the outgoing standard vehicle (F10M), if not special editions such as the 30 Jahre. The system defaults to all-wheel drive with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) turned on, but a rear-biased 2WD mode with no DSC is selectable. Indeed, the front wheels are only given power when those at the rear aren't able to put any more torque down effectively. The car's impressive performance figures speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds (124 mph). An available Variable Damper Control system adds electronically controlled shocks with three modes, and an available speed-sensitive M Servotronic Steering system gives drivers more options to adjust steering effort.

BMW has unveiled the 2018 BMW M5, which marks the introduction of the sixth generation M5, since its introduction in 1984.

Like its predecessors, the new BMW M5 gets its own distinctive visuals that blend form and function.

"The M5 takes the BMW M-series into new territory, with 441 kW/600 hp, peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) and 10.5 l/100 km [26.9 mpg imp] fuel consumption combined/ 241 g/km Carbon dioxide emissions combined, which promise supreme propulsive power and formidable performance". Top speed, when equipped with the optional M Driver's Package, is 189 miles per hour.

The M1 and M2 buttons, which allow drivers to save their favourite combination of settings for the all-wheel drive system, DSC, engine, transmission, steering, suspension and head-up display have been moved to the top of the spoke and painted bright red for easy identification. We also noticed the new alloys and even the mirror caps are different. These extend into the extremely lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof - a standard feature of the new M5. The latest generation of BMW's venerable performance sedan packs a more powerful engine and a new way of delivering the output to the road. While the M5 won't be officially released until next spring, Need for Speed players can drive it first and exclusively in Need for Speed Payback. Scheduled for launch on the same sales start date as the standard M5 is the BMW M5 First Edition. 20-inch items can be specified as an option (front: 275/35 R 20 tyres on 9.5 x 20 rims, rear: 285/35 R 20 tyres on 10.5 x 20 rims). The BMW M5 First Edition has exclusive Frozen Dark Red Metallic paintwork and includes BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim. Inside, the cars have M multifunction seats, Piano Black appliques, and a plaque on the center console indicating its production number.
