Police Detain Suspect in Changshu Fire That Killed 22

Twenty-two people died and three were injured in an arson attack in Changshu, Jiangsu Province on Sunday.

The fire was put out at 5:28 a.m.

Only six tenants were rescued from the fire and the three injured people have been sent to a local hospital for medical treatment. The authorities also stated that the doors were locked from the outside.

Around 71 firefighters and 13 fire engines raced to battle the blaze, managing to extinguish the flames just over an hour later. Local police gave no further information on the suspect, Xinhua said. The building was being rented by a restaurant using it to house cooks, waiters, and other employees, investigators said.

The man who was apprehended is surnamed Jiang, Xinhua reported, without giving more details.
