This led her to go to the doctor for an MRI, after which she was told by doctors that she had a golf ball sized tumor in her brain.
But it was the timing of her April diagnosis that sent shock waves through her family.
For now, Maria has chose to step away from her E!
She also praises Undergaro, 51, who popped the question in March 2016 after 19 years of dating, for taking care of her through her health crisis.
After undergoing surgery, Maria told People: "This February I thought I had an ear infection so I went to a doctor, and he said, 'Your ears are the cleanest things I've ever seen". Then her speech began to slur on set. Her mom's cancer is stable, she said.
There were options to consider.
What makes this even more startling, it was almost a year ago Menounos' mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Sadly, her mother is now battling Stage-4 brain cancer.
Menounos has since had the tumor, which was benign, removed in a surgery. The procedure lasted about seven hours.
Menounos, a self-professed fanatic of Sylvester Stallone movies, said she woke up from surgery in a daze, quoting a line from the film "Rocky Balboa".

In her exclusive interview with People Magazine, now on newsstands, Menounos says she plans to take some time off and focus on unspecified 'passion projects'. Entertainment, said Monday in a statement.
