Do you think Wonder Woman will remain the number one film next weekend? While it's not as big as the opening weekend for Man of Steelor Deadpool, it easily surpasses Doctor Strangeand the first Iron Man, Thor and Captain Americamovies.
But it also performed well compared to other superhero films outside of the DC Universe. Its significance goes far beyond even that though, thanks in large part to its massive $223 million opening.
Director Patty Jenkins's film took 103.1 million dollars (£79.7 million) in the U.S., the biggest opening for a movie directed by a woman. The previous record was just over $85 million, and was held by Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson. Pictures and DC Films'Wonder Woman opened to a powerful $100.5 million domestically from 4,165 theaters, for an average of $24,131 per location.
Wonder Woman has earned an outstanding $122.5 million from 34,300 screens in 55 global markets, with $9.3 million of that figure coming from 665 overseas IMAX screens.More news: Attorney General Jeff Sessions testifies before Senate committee

There's no confirmation of a follow-up to "Wonder Woman" on Warner Bros.' end, but the critical acclaim and early earnings from the original probably make it a safe bet.
Now, various stars have taken their time to praise and congratulate Gadot and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkin's on an excellent superhero movie, and this includes Marvel star Chris Evans. "You want to do a movie like this because you believe in it", she said. That part of me is watching, saying, 'Ah, let's prove them wrong'.
Wonder Woman is Jenkins' second feature, after Monster, and she's spent more than a decade working to make the movie happen.
