Former Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, who chatted with Hodgkinson at the gym, said he assumed the man was homeless because he wore pretty much the same outfit every day and carried a bag full of extra clothes.

She explained, her husband sold his southern IL home inspection business months ago.

She was emotional as she spoke to reporters Thursday outside her home in Belleville, Illinois.

The charges were eventually dismissed, but witnesses told deputies Hodgkinson grabbed the girl by the hair and threw her on the floor.

Hodgkinson is accused of shooting at several members of the Republican baseball team that was practicing this week for the annual congressional baseball game played for charity. There have been protests against President Donald Trump on the main street here.

WANG: She got a lot of questions from reporters. "But he never really implied one way or the other that he was pro-Democrat, anti-GOP Republican or anything like that". He thought about asking a staffer about him but never did.

"I, you know, I just don't know what to tell you people", she said. He always drank Budweiser from a can and drank alone, barely speaking to anyone, including the bartenders. "I started yelling at him, 'Hey, stop shooting; there's houses over here".

"He would just sit and stare at the Golf Channel", she said. And the people told me, you know, despite these splits, it doesn't divide them personally, and they're able to get along.
