For Durant, winning his first title will validate in many ways his decision to join an already loaded Golden State team in addition to taking him off the list of highest scoring National Basketball Association players (Durant has a career 27.2 points per game average) in league history to never win an National Basketball Association title. And for the third straight time, the wine and gold are considered underdogs even though they are the reigning champions.
If Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala lead the Warriors defense to a total takeover of LeBron James and the Cavaliers' dynamic offense, the Warriors can make this a total postseason run-away.
To do so, however, he's going to have to put in one of the most taxing two-way performances the National Basketball Association has seen.
"I'm just trying to be the best me I can be", he told reporters on Wednesday. His greatness can never be overlooked.
"People just automatically think that, 'Man, this guy ain't from the hood".
He won't be named the 2016-17 NBA MVP and was (somehow) not even named a Top 3 MVP candidate, but he could quite possibly be using that as a little motivation to prove yet again that he is not only the best player in the league, but the most valuable player in the league in this series against the Warriors.
"It's incredible. Especially since this is Year 14 for me, for this to happen now, this means so much", Korver said of his first trip to the Finals. It will be up to Irving to take Curry out of the game like he did past year. "It's been working up to this point, so I can't change what I'm doing".
How rare is it for the same two teams to meet three years in a row with a championship on the line?
The 2017 NBA Playoffs have been utterly lopsided thus far.
In case you didn't already think that the duo of James and Irving can lead the Cavs to back-to-back titles by themselves, Kevin Love is playing his best basketball as a Cavalier.More news: Trump to announce decision on global climate deal

Some may have argued that Tristan Thompson's max contract extension was an overpay, but he does so much for the Cavs, both on and off the box score.
"I came back for a reason and that's to bring a championship to the city of Cleveland". That is three fewer titles than Michael Jordan, with five more losses on the biggest stage.
If the Warriors can force the Cavaliers into strategic adjustments - such as making them play defensive-minded Iman Shumpert or wing Richard Jefferson more than they have in earlier series - I think the Warriors can slice and dice the Cavaliers at their weakest spots.
Like the Warriors, the Cavaliers enter this year's Finals healthy. "Not proud of the way we played [in this series]". "I play it with a lot of love, and a lot of passion, and that's what I got back to this year... this right here is the happiest day of my life". This go-round, the Cavs are deeper than they've ever been.
Here's my short-hand logic for this series: The Warriors have more two-way players than the Cavaliers and can out-maneuver the Cavaliers, the Warriors are the better defensive team, they're a more varied offensive team, they're deeper, they have the stronger motivation after blowing the series a year ago.
Not precisely, mind you, since my guess was Cleveland in six games over Golden State and not seven, as it turned out to be.
Russell Westbrook will get the 2017 MVP award later this month but until that happens it is fair to say that Golden State has all the MVP winners since LeBron's last trophy in 2013 - Durant in 2014 and Steph Curry the last two years.
WHAT HOME-COURT ADVANTAGE? The Cavaliers' nine-game postseason road winning streak, three shy of the 2001-02 Lakers' league record, started with victories previous year in Games 5 and 7 in Oakland.
"I don't like to be satisfied too much", James said. Those naysayers not only didn't learn their lesson, but they've essentially counted out LeBron James.
