House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) was upgraded from critical to serious condition, a spokesperson for the congressman announced on Saturday evening.

It is not yet clear if the names on the list were intended targets, the source said. This person was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

According to officials briefed on the FBI investigation, the list included congressmen Trent Franks of Arizona, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Mo Brooks of Alabama, and a few others that officials would not reveal.

"He is more responsive, and is speaking with his loved ones", the statement said. He sustained "a single rifle shot to the left hip" that "travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs and causing severe bleeding", the hospital said in a statement.

Since then, the lawmaker has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures to stop the bleeding and fix bone.

The 66-year-old gunman who shot Scalise and three other people was killed in a shootout with police at the baseball field in Alexandria, across the Potomac River from the U.S. Capitol.

Hodgkinson, a Belleville, Illinois, home inspector who had been living out of his van near the park, had a social media page filled with criticism of Republicans and the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump said Friday that Steve Scalise "took a bullet for all of us".

"I feel a lot more optimistic than I did two or three days ago".

"His risk of death right now is substantially lower than when he came in". "The Scalise family greatly appreciates the outpouring of thoughts and prayers", the hospital wrote, "on behalf of the Scalise family". Capitol Police officer David Bailey and Texas Rep. Roger Williams were also injured during the incident. Griner remains hospitalized at MedStar Hospital after getting shot in the ankle, and Sava described her in good condition.
