Returning Champions League winners Real Madrid received as living legends

Real Madrid became the first team in the Champions League era to win back-to-back titles with their 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday.

The Wales global was a second-half substitute on Saturday as Madrid claimed their second Champions League triumph in as many seasons with a 4-1 win over Juventus in Cardiff. We've won trophies and of course it is one of the best moments of my career - I have the opportunity to say this every year but it's true!

"People won't be able to criticise me because the numbers don't lie".

Juventus went into the final with an unbeaten record in this season's Champions League and had conceded only three goals en route to Cardiff.

Ronaldo underscored his status as Europe's most lethal striker with the first and third goals as Real were crowned champions of Europe for a record-extending 12th time.

Madrid became the first team to defend the European Cup successfully since Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan in 1990 and the first to achieve the feat since the competition relaunched as the Champions League in 1992. "I feel like this is the best team in history", Alvaro Mora, a fan who had travelled over 500 kilometres from the southern city of Almeria to take in the celebrations, told AFP. I consider myself a man of this house (Real Madrid).

Casemiro and Marco Asensio were also on the scoresheet for Real after Mario Mandzukic had levelled Ronaldo's early opener for the Italian champions. The world player of the year knocked the ball across to Dani Carvajal on the right flank before drifting into the penalty area to receive it back and beat Buffon. "It was crucial for our performance in the second half".

"We have won three Champions Leagues in four seasons so we have to be in that category", he said.

"We need to just keep doing what we are doing, because I think we can win many more titles in the future".

Zidane: "We knew this was going to be a hard but very special season".

"I love football. I have the chance to be with this great club, with this great squad". But at the same time we know that next year is going to be much more difficult and we will have to work harder.
