Florida State Trooper Hit and Killed by Vehicle While Assisting Previous Wreck


Two vehicles also traveling south in the center lane collided.

During the second crash, 52-year-old Master Sergeant William T. Bishop was hit while standing outside his patrol vehicle.

Williams was taken to Shands Hospital where is was pronounced dead.

The crash that killed the trooper happened shortly before 6:30 p.m.in the southbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 403, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

"Every member at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is grieving with Sgt. Bishop's family during this horrific time", the statement continued.

Law enforcement reported Bishop was investigating a crash when a passing vehicle hit the 30-year-veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol.

An officer is dead after being hit by a vehicle in Alachua County.
