Donald Trump Jr. appears to contradict father's account of private Comey meeting

As he sat before the Senate Intelligence Committee about to testify Thursday, Comey demonstrated that he knows how to set the stage in the theater of politics.

Trump's lawyer Marc Kasowitz has indicated he will file a complaint about Comey to the Justice Department, which oversees the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Trump corruptly tried to block the pending criminal investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

"We also were aware of facts that I can't discuss in an open setting that would make his continued engagement in a Russia-related investigation problematic", Comey said. He is a good guy.

Reporter: [Comey] did say, under oath, that you told him to let the Flynn. that you hoped the Flynn investigation would go away.

Sessions' appearance before the intelligence committee is an indication of just how much the Russian Federation investigation has shaded his tenure. "[I] replied only that '[Flynn] is a good guy'".

That appears to directly contradict what Trump said during a Friday news conference, when he insisted, "I didn't say that" when he was asked about that portion of Comey's testimony.

Comey felt so uncomfortable after the exchange with Trump, he later asked Sessions not to leave him alone with the president. If they exist, then there is a chance for one side to win here.

Another Republican senator, Lindsey Graham of SC, told CBS he thought it would be "inappropriate for the president to testify publicly".

Even if Trump's core holds, the erosion of support from independents and wavering Democrats would jeopardize his ability to build support in swing states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida, said Paul Maslin, a Democratic pollster based in Wisconsin.

It was not clear exactly what Trump meant by "prevalent" - a point made in a flurry of Twitter postings by critics of the president. Trump asked Comey to "lift the cloud".

Trump recently repeated an off-base account of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation finances as well.

The counsel would not say whether Trump has tapes of his Oval Office conversations with Comey. He was insane, a real nut job", adding, "I faced great pressure because of Russian Federation.

"The attack on Pulse really struck me hard", he said. But: "I think there's absolutely evidence to begin a case". So, he memorialized them in written memoranda. Comey said his gut told him he couldn't trust Trump.

Trump's acts constitute probable cause that he engaged in obstruction of justice. Trump's lawyer denied this claim in a statement following Comey's testimony.

Obstruction of justice is a felony, which is a "High Crime". Ivanka Trump has taken a White House job as an adviser to her father. Instead of taking care to enforce the laws, Trump has endeavored to circumvent them.

Comey, however, specifically said at congressional hearing that Mueller had not reviewed or edited his testimony.

David Crary reported from NY.

His testimony follows fired FBI Director James Comey's riveting session before the same Senate panel last week.
