Two years after Conor McGregor declared in an Esquire interview that he would "kill" the boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.in "less than 30 seconds", it appears that McGregor, a mixed martial arts star, will get his chance. McGregor had been eager to fight and pushed the bout for most of 2017, constantly taunting Mayweather and challenging him to finish the deal. Las Vegas oddsmakers list Mayweather a -1200 favorite and McGregor a +700 underdog.

"We have actually tapped into the audience that doesn't really follow either sport", said Stephen Espinoza, vice president of the fight's broadcaster Showtime Sports.

The 40-year-old Floyd Mayweather hasn't fought since his retirement in 2015, while McGregor's last fight was back in November last year. When Mayweather preserved his unbeaten record against Manny Pacquiao, in 2015, the Mirror reports that Mayweather's share of the purse was $180 million.

In order to make sure that doesn't happen, UFC president Dana White confirmed late Wednesday on a media conference call that language was added to the contract, including the kind of financial penalties that are created to deter such practices. Not so much that I think it will be competitively close, but that two of the best combat sports have been able to make this fight happen.

The fight is expected to be a 12-round boxing match, with 10-ounce gloves.

McGregor does have no professional boxing experience to speak of, which is a big concern of Butterbean's in getting the fight approved.

The McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) vs. Mayweather (49-0 boxing) bout was formally announced on Wednesday following months of rumors and doubts.

The fight is scheduled for August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after months of negotiations. He is absolutely 100 per cent positive that he wins this fight and I stopped doubting Conor McGregor a long time ago.

Ellerbe concluded: "Conor McGregor is a terrific guy, he's amusing as hell to me". When Conor hits people, they go. McGregor has a huge following and he is the highest-paid athlete in the UFC because his fights sell bigger than anyone else's. Mayweather, on the other hand, possesses a ideal 49-0 record.
