Chelsea join Liverpool in £60m race to sign star 25-year-old

Despite Liverpool's dramatic statement ending their pursuit of Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk over two weeks ago, a move to Anfield still remains possible.

Could the Virgil van Dijk saga be about to take another positive twist that works in the Reds favour?

That being said, the Reds are still keen on van Dijk, and that has put Conte off, given the manager has spoken on more than one occasion that he only wants players at Chelsea who want to be there, it doesn't come as a huge shock.

This seems to reiterate the growing belief that Liverpool remain in the hunt for the 25-year-old and that an official offer could soon be made.

A bid has been launched for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, while Antonio Conte has also instructed the club to press ahead with a move for Leonardo Bonucci.

However, the champions still have a lot of work to do to land the Dutch worldwide as the Express claim that van Dijk is still holding out for a move to Liverpool this summer.

The Reds were forced into a public apology earlier this month after the Saints issued a complaint about them tapping up the Dutch worldwide.

Further, it's claimed that Southampton are resigned to losing Van Dijk this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester City also keen, but any interested party will have to meet his staggering £70m price-tag which has increased since Liverpool's row over their approach.

But Van Dijk is the clear choice to strengthen the back line at Anfield, and Klopp wants to push the move over the line if he can.
