Authorities seek 2 escaped inmates after 2 Ga. guards killed

31 other prisoners were on board the bus and they all stayed behind until officers arrived on scene. He said protocol is to have two armed corrections officers on the bus but that the officers don't wear bullet-proof vests during transfers.

The corrections department said 33 inmates were on the bus when the pair escaped.

The photo of 24-year-old Ricky Dubose released by the Elbert County Sheriff's Office shows tattoos above his eyebrows and across his neck.

Two armed inmates have escaped and are considered very risky.

The slain Baldwin State Prison officers were Christopher Monica, who was hired in 2009, and Curtis Billue, who was hired in 2007, Georgia Corrections said.

They are armed with the officer's.40 caliber Glock pistol.

How the two inmates managed to reach and overpower the guards remains under investigation, Sills said.

A manhunt is underway for two prisoners after one of them shot and killed two corrections officers transporting them on a bus Tuesday morning in central Georgia, authorities said.

The incident happened early in the morning on Highway 16 near Sparta.

One corrections officer had been driving the large bus and the second officer was sitting up front, according to officials. They reportedly escaped in a Honda Civic.

Rosenstein said federal resources are being committed to help catch the fugitives. Sills said the men then vanished again and authorities have no reason to believe they have split up.

The FBI said the two were seen getting into a "grass green", four-door 2004 Honda Civic with the Georgia license plate number RBJ-6601.

A post on the Oconee County Sheriff's Office Facebook page states that the City of Madison PD says the inmates broke into a residence there and got clothes, left their prison whites, and made their escape from there.

"We are now looking for two white males in a dark green Honda Civic that have escaped and they are armed", Putnam County Sheriff spokeswoman Teresa Slade said.
