Amazon rolling out upgrades for Alexa

Starting today, Amazon Echo owners will have the ability to use their Alexa assistant to easily set reminders just with their voices.

So how do you set reminders on the Amazon Echo now? For example, you can say "Alexa, remind me to pick up the dry cleaning on Thursday at 5PM" or "Alexa, remind me to pay rent June 1 at 10AM". We'll also cover how to get the update and when you can expect it to hit your device in the United Kingdom and other countries.

You can check your list of active timers from within the Alexa app, if you want an overview of everything at once.

The Amazon Echo has now been out for nearly two years, but it's been missing a pretty critical feature that probably should have been available at launch: reminders. While you're making your next multi-course masterpiece, you'll be able to avoid mixing up your cook times by assigning a timer to each dish.

This course will teach you the skills you need to build complex voice applications on the Amazon Alexa platform. For instance, "remind me to eat that massive sausage roll in 40 minutes".

You can also plan a little further out, setting specific reminders in advance, and keep track of them all in the Alerts & Alarms section of the Alexa app. According to the site's unnamed sources, Amazon will ship more than 10 million Echo speakers in 2017.

The good news is, you don't have to so much as lift a finger to get the update. In fact, Digitimes' sources say that Amazon surpassed its full-year shipment goal for the Echo Dot in just a few months earlier this year.

The features should be available on your Echo today in the USA, and will be making their way to Germany and the United Kingdom in the next few weeks. But now, I won't have to reach for my phone whenever I think of a task I need to do later.
