Credit: Michael LavineThe Rock on the Range and Rocklahoma festivals, both of which Soundgarden was scheduled to headline this month, have issued statements regarding the unexpected death of Chris Cornell.
Soundgarden reunited in 2010 and embarked on the current USA tour in April.
Cornell said he offered minimal explanation for his songs because he wanted fans to come up with their own meanings. "All the friends that I had were still (messed) up with drugs and were people that I didn't really have anything in common with", he said. He also spoke of periods of depression and agoraphobia.
Along with local bands Nirvana and Alice in Chains, Soundgarden played a big part in the grunge movement that threw Seattle into the national pop culture spotlight in the early 1990s.
As you should all know, ChrisCornell, along with his band Soundgarden, was one of the key instigators for grunge music. From 2001 to 2007, he was the lead singer of Audioslave, which consisted of Rage Against the Machine members after their lead singer, Zack de la Rocha, left in 2000, and he reunited with Soundgarden in 2011.
The concert, which took place at the Jose Marti Anti-Imperialist Tribune in front of what was then the U.S. Interests Section in Havana (the U.S. Embassy opened in 2015), was the first major outdoor concert by an American rock band in Cuba.More news: The First Trailer for Star Trek: Discovery is Finally Here

Detroit police say the death of rocker Chris Cornell, the lead singer of the bands Soundgarden and later Audioslave, is being investigated as a possible suicide.
He was a lead singer and songwriter in the groups Soundgarden and Audioslave.
Cornell also had an extensive solo career as a singer, guitarist, composer and lyricist and worked with various other musicians over three decades in the music business.
His first solo album, 1999′s Euphoria Morning, was a dark album that was initially supposed to be titled Euphoria Mourning. Last time I went to Australia and New Zealand nobody said anything to me. If we are not leading a happy productive life, we are leading probably an unhappy non-productive life. There's no just kind of flat lining coasting.
It would be ghoulish to race to the lyric sheet of Soundgarden's 1996 hit "Pretty Noose" for answers, but if you listen to the song itself from start to finish, you'll hear everything spectacular about Cornell's singing.
KEXP will have a tribute and moment of silence for Cornell outside its studios at 5 p.m. Thursday.
And tomorrow, they'll be paying tribute to the beloved Seattle musician all day long for their annual "Six Degrees" day of programming-featuring a full day of "on-the-fly" music curation by KEXP on-air hosts John Richards, Cheryl Waters, and Kevin Cole.
