Top Moments and Looks — Billboard Music Awards

Even on a record-setting night at the Billboard Music Awards, Drake appeared a bit star-struck in meeting fellow Canadian performer Celine Dion backstage.

Adele set a record at the show in 2012 with 12 wins.

"I got my whole family up here", said Drake, who stood onstage with almost two dozen people, including his father, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.

The rapper was presented the top artist awards by Prince Michael Jackson, the eldest son of the late singer.

He beat out Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Adele, Ariana Grande, the Weeknd, twenty-one pilots, Shawn Mendes and the Chainsmokers for top artist.

With the low drama over who will win prizes, the Billboard gala instead offers musicians a wide television audience months after the United States entertainment industry's awards season.

Think pasties, glitters, big hair, loud colours and everything shimmering as the iconic singer showed off major skin that looks nothing close to her years.

She teamed the daring look - which she previously wore in the song's music video - with thigh-high boots and a leather jacket. While the stage's robotic vocal effects and the gang of background vocals did the heavy lifting during her performance of Believe, she was still a natural, strutting across the stage looking fantastic in a basically-naked crystal dress.

Accepting the Billboard Icon Award from singer Gwen Stefani, Cher said: "So, I wanted to do what I do since I was four years old, and I've been doing it for 53 years".

He won top artist, top male artist and top Billboard 200 album for "View". Another highlight was Celine Dion.

Cher received an icon award, just days after turning 71 while a moment of silence was held for Audioslave and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell who died last week at the age of 52.

He added: "We send our respects as well as our love to Chris' family at this time".

She has won three more Billboard Music Awards, and she has been one of the most defining voices in music for more than five decades. Hudgens, who hosted with Ludacris, also sang Dion's "I'm Your Lady" and wowed with her fashion choices.

Tearing up at the end of her soaring vocal take, Cyrus paired her new single's country twang with boots, cutoffs and a ranch-ready hat, quite a change from her most infamous awards show outfit, the naked-latex outfit from her infamous VMAs performance. Ed Sheeran sang "Castle on the Hill" from Santiago, Chile, while Bruno Mars performed his silky new single, "Versace on the Floor", from Amsterdam.
