The Guest Director Adam Wingard To Helm Godzilla Vs. Kong

Warner Bros. and Legendary have given low-budget horror/thriller veteran Adam Wingard the giant task of directing the two massive kaijus inGodzilla vs. Kong.

The movie is slated for a May 22nd 2020 release, but we won't have to wait that long for a big-monster fix, since the next Godzilla solo film is already underway, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which will be starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown. Godzilla from Legendary was the first entry in the series, and released in 2014 to fairly successful financial and critical acclaim.

Adam Wingard has always been one of luminaries of the modern horror scene, having helmed some of two of this century's most striking and innovative shockers in You're Next and The Guest.

This is (quite literally) the director's most monstrous film yet.

The Tennessee-born Wingard, who claims Birmingham as his hometown, made a name for himself directing independent horror features like "You're Next" and "The Guest", as well as segments in the "V/H/S" films.

In March, Legendary gathered a writers' room to take on the task of penning Godzilla vs. Kong's script, with Pirates of the Caribbean's Terry Rossio taking lead. Other scribes scribbling included team Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, Maze Runner movies writer T.S. Nowlin, Jack Paglen (Johnny Depp's Transcendence), and "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski.

No plot details have been revealed yet, but check back with MFR for more.

Godzilla VS. Kong is set to stomp into theaters on May 22, 2020.
