Syria using crematorium to cover up mass hangings, US claims

Western monitors and watchdog groups said they have accumulated evidence of mass killings in Syrian government prisons. US allegations of a crematorium are "a new Hollywood story" that is "fundamentally untrue", the source said, accusing USA intelligence of having fabricated other claims against Syria in the past.

The Foreign Ministry said the allegations are a "new Hollywood plot" to justify USA intervention in Syria. The building of a crematorium allows the regime to cover up the extent of mass murders they undertake while leaving behind little evidence, Jones said.

Jones gave reporters satellite pictures apparently showing snow melting on the roof of the facility.

Construction and Housing Minister Yoav Galant (Kulanu) said on Tuesday that the time had come to assassinate Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Jones' remarks came three months after a report by Amnesty International in February that outlined various abuses by the Syrian government at Sednaya and called the prison a "human slaughterhouse".

Madhar Sharabjty, a Syrian refugee in Turkey whose brothers were detained by the Assad regime in 2011, said the news was extremely worrisome.

"We are appalled by the atrocities that have been carried out by the Syrian regime and these atrocities have been carried out seemingly with the unconditional support from Russian Federation and Iran", Jones said, calling on both countries to use their influence with Assad to advance a political solution to the conflict.

Meslet, in Geneva for the United Nations -mediated talks, told Saudi-owned TV station al-Hadath that the government was known to move prisoners around from site to site for interrogations and, in some instances, executions.

In the statement, the source claimed "the Syrian government isn't surprised" because similar accusations have been brought up "whenever any round of political talks was to be held". He accused President Bashar Assad's government of sinking "to a new level of depravity".

"The State of Israel knows how to defend itself on its own, but we must always remember that we have friends and allies and it is important to nurture our relationships with them", said Galant.

The US Department of State officially announced the above-mentioned accusations, referring to intelligence and "credible" humanitarian agencies.

"The facts we're presenting today are based on reporting from global and local non-governmental organisations, press reporting and also intelligence community assessments".

"The regime must stop all attacks on civilians and opposition forces, and Russian Federation must bear responsibility to ensure regime compliance".

Support for Assad in Moscow and Tehran is "seemingly unconditional", Jones said. The Astana track produced a May 4 deal to create four "de-escalation" zones across some of Syria's bloodiest battlegrounds.
