Godbolt, 35, of 377 Brister St.in Bogue Chitto, was either related to or an acquaintance of each victim, authorities said, except Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff William Durr.

Godbolt has a lengthy criminal record, including armed robbery and aggravated assault charges from 2005, simple assault charges from 2013, disorderly conduct charges from 2015 and an arrest for driving with a suspended license in the same year, according to the Daily Leader.

Durr served in the sheriff's department for two years and the Brookhaven Police Department for four years, the MBI said.

"I ain't fit to live, not after what I done", a handcuffed Willie Corey Godbolt, 35, told The Clarion-Ledger, a local newspaper.

The deceased deputy has been identified as 36-year-old William Durr.

He said that he was sorry that the sheriff's deputy died, blaming the people who called law enforcement.

Caleb Edwards, 15, said it was after midnight when Godbolt burst into the home where he and other young people were playing video games. "I ran out of bullets", said Cory Godbolt, accused killer, "Suicide by cops was my intention".

- A MS teen died a hero over the weekend after family says he shielded his 15-year-old cousin from gunfire in what cops have called a domestic dispute that ended up leaving eight people dead, including a police officer who responded to an initial domestic dispute call.

"Godbolt also killed three females at the house, Strain said, before heading to another residence in the nearby city of Brookhaven and fatally shooting two boys, Strain said".

Governor Phil Bryant issued a statement on Facebook, reading: "I ask all Mississippians to join Deborah and me in praying for those lost in Lincoln County".

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain said prosecutors plan to charge Godbolt, 35, with one count of capital murder and seven counts of first degree murder, but authorities haven't discussed a motive. At last check, Godbolt remained hospitalized at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the arm. He could make an initial court appearance Tuesday.

Brookhaven is a south MS city surrounded by pine trees and rolling green pastures.

"It's a small community, and everybody's hurting in one way or another", said Sheriff Steve Rushing of Lincoln County, which has a population of about 34,000 about 70 miles south of Jackson.

Blackwell, one of the juveniles who was slain, was an incoming senior and a linebacker for the Panther football team. Godbolt said the deputy tried to intervene and it cost him his life. "They didn't deserve this", Alexandria Blackwell said, her eyes filling with tears.

In this undated photo provided by Tiffany Blackwell her son Jordan Blackwell poses for a photo. "I couldn't believe when I walked in the house". "I knew it was him". I told him to get up, but he wouldn't move.

Witnesses say Godbolt had gone to a Bogue Chitto home to demand that his estranged wife give up their two children and seemed like he was going to comply when the deputy asked him to leave but then opened fire.

"I'm devastated", Vincent Mitchell told the Associated Press.

"He'd come to get his kids".

During an interview with a Clarion-Ledger reporter, filmed as he sat at the edge of the road with his hands cuffed behind him, Godbolt said he only meant to talk to his wife and recover his children.

"He acted like, motioned like, he was fixing to go". "Then he reached in his back pocket and grabbed a gun. And then he started shooting everybody".

Authorities say the carnage apparently stemmed from a domestic dispute involving Godbolt's wife and kids.

Austin and Jordan were two of the eight people killed over the weekend as a result of Godbolt's shooting rampage.
