Sega's Sonic Mania is due out later this year- we know it's due by the end of the Summer, and apparently it's out in August according to a rumor we reported on yesterday. Best of all, it will cost $19.99 across all platforms. Even with the long hype cycle and the history of disappointment that is part and parcel with recent Sonic games, it really does look like Mania may be the the entry fans have been asking for since Sonic CD. Alongside the remixed Green Hill and Flying Battery zones and the brand new Studiopolis and Mirage Saloon zones that were previously revealed, we see glimpses of a stage coated in vegetation, featuring man-eating plants to act as obstacles. Digital preorders are now available for Sonic Mania on Steam and Xbox One, and will be for PlayStation as well later today.

"Experience the ultimate celebration of past and future in Sonic Mania, an all-new 2D Sonic adventure running at a crisp 60FPS with stunning HD retro-style graphics", says Sega (via Gematsu). Sonic the hedgehog, Tails the fox and Knuckles the echidna will all appear in the game. The game's developers include Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley, who are both renowned for developing great ports of older Sonic games. You can re-live the Sonic of the past with an exciting new twist on classic zones while fighting against new bosses and Dr. Eggman's evil robot army. It is unclear why Sonic Mania has been delayed so many times (it was originally set to release in early Spring).
