Shruti Haasan graces Cannes Film Festival with 'Sangamithra'

Taking the cue from Baahubali, Kollywood director Sundar C is coming up with a historic film "Sangamithra" starring Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi and Arya.

To be directed by Sundar C., the film will feature Shruti in the role of a fierce warrior. Thendral Films is the production house backing up the project.

Talking about her Cannes 2017 debut in an interview, Shruti Haasan said, "I'm so happy to be taking our film Sangamithra to an global audience via such a prestigious platform like the Cannes Film Festival".

The poster features the 31-year-old actress looking majestic and valorous, riding a horse with a sword in her hand.

Sangamithra is an ambitious project and reportedly has a bigger budget than Rajinikanth's Enthiran 2 / 2.0 and Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion! The much-anticipated film will be made in two parts. For the Shruti has also been training really hard in physical combat, and sword fighting to prepare for the warrior role. Other technicians of this movie include musician AR Rahman and art director Sabu Cyril.

Recently, the filmmakers had revealed the plot of the film and that it would be based in the 8th century AD. Bollywood celebs like Deepika Padukone and Aishwarya Rai are also attending the 70th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which kicked-off on Wednesday, and Sonam Kapoor is expected to join in soon. Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman will do the music for the movie.
