Sergio Romero saves penalty as Man United draw at Southampton

"He played 90 minutes in the last game [against Southampton], so probably not".

Their goalkeeper Sergio Romero shone as he saved a barrage of hard shots, including an early Manolo Gabbiadini penalty and a ferocious Dusan Tadic free kick in the second half as the Saints failed to score at home in a fourth successive game.

Jose Mourinho has insisted that Manchester United will do everything they can to keep David De Gea at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

But Mourinho wants to have the Spain number one when United begin their 2017/18 pre-season against LA Galaxy on July 15 as part of their tour of the United States.

Asked when Manchester United fans can expect to see De Gea in a Red Devils shirt again, Mourinho told Sky Sports on Wednesday night: "David?"

"I couldn't protect him as he needed to play". Hopefully we don't have problems with these two keepers.

And Mourinho admits he feels fortunate to have such quality options at his disposal.

Having stretched his winless league run to five games as the unimpressive run-in left United certain of finishing sixth, Mourinho can only hope his injury-hit side fire on all cylinders in Stockholm. "There is a good tradition of goalkeepers in both countries".

"We will bring 3-4 of the first-team players on Sunday, one half for each one, to give a bit of experience for each and save them all for Wednesday", Mourinho said. They are phenomenal. And I keep saying the Portuguese kid [Pereira] is a very good goalkeeper.

"We played a good team, a team who tried to win and tried to finish well", Mourinho said after visiting goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved a barrage of hard shots, including Manolo Gabbiadini's fifth-minute penalty. I don't lose time (requesting a switch I don't believe they would grant).

"I'm here (in English football) already seven years; I never saw any detail of trying to care about the English teams involved in European competitions".

"The team wasn't ideal but individually they gave me good things".
