Sergio Romero displayed some eye-catching pre-Europa League final form by saving a penalty as Manchester United drew 0-0 at Southampton in their penultimate Premier League game yesterday. The Spain worldwide has been constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid, with reports suggesting the club have made acquiring the 26-year-old their main priority during the upcoming summer transfer window.

"It's a shame I think because in the first half we had good play without quality or intensity and the second half it was better with possibilities and opportunities".

Mourinho downplayed any chance of United allowing De Gea to leave, saying: "David is top in the world and we want to keep the top in the world".

The Red Devils play Ajax in the Stockholm showpiece just three days after their final day clash against Crystal Palace - and Mourinho is expected to name a line-up against the Eagles which is a youth team in all-but name.

But Mourinho has ordered for his players to continue their preparations in Manchester before flying to Sweden on Tuesday. "The team was not ideal but the players gave me good things".

But they failed to win any tickets in the ballot for Europa League Final tickets and thought they were going to have to miss out on the big day, until they struck lucky with SunSport and Enterprise.

Rather than restore his usual number one, David de Gea, to his starting XI against Palace, Mourinho said he would hand a league debut to 20-year-old third-choice goalkeeper Joel Pereira. I did a lot of training with him, maybe I have a decision in my head when he takes the ball and I say he's shooting to the right for sure and I go there.

"Sergio had a very good performance, more than very good". United are guaranteed to finish sixth in the Premier League and their only option into the Champions League is to win the final of the Europa League.

"Fellani hasn't got a tear but he's experienced enough to know he had a feeling".

He said: "I never saw two goalkeepers who are such close friends". I think we did more than okay, " Mourinho said. Claude Puel will be without Virgil van Dijk and Alex McCarthy for the game with United.

From Mourinho's perspective, some United players gave him food for thought ahead of the Ajax game.
