Republicans are starting to defy Trump on Russian Federation

The leaks about the Trump White House took a dramatic new turn with The New York Times story about a conversation between the president and former FBI Director James Comey about former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn.

"It is critical that we quickly learn all the facts", Katko, R-Camillus, said in a statement released Wednesday.

Former FBI chief Robert Mueller was on Wednesday appointed as special counsel to investigate the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections and possible collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign and Moscow, said a Reuters report.

The Republican leader faces allegations he asked his FBI director James Comey to halt a probe of a senior former advisor, and dismissed Comey in a bid to curb an investigation into his campaign team's possible collusion with Russian Federation. He referred all questioners to the administration's only comment so far, a terse written statement that says "the president never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation".

"He's around and the best evidence of what happened in that meeting would be to call him as a witness", said Barbara McQuade, former US attorney for the Eastern District of MI.

According to Comey's close friend who spoke to reporters at the NYT, Comey has detailed notes and personal reflections from every interaction he had with Trump, and double that for times when Comey thought Trump was acting in a way that could cause trouble.

Democratic lawmakers have demanded that the Justice Department name a special prosecutor to investigate potential ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Elijah Cummings, top Democrat on a key House oversight panel, countered that Mr Ryan and the Republicans had shown "zero, zero, zero appetite for any investigation of President Trump".

The Justice Department said Mueller has resigned from his job at a private law firm to take the job of special counsel.

The tumult in Washington deepened on Tuesday over allegations Trump had sought to end the FBI's investigation into ties between Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and Russian Federation.

"I think we've seen this movie before", the Arizona Republican said at a dinner to receive the International Republican Institute's Freedom Award today.

But the fate of its investigation hinges on Ryan's lukewarm support and the sometimes fractious working relationship between its Republican and Democratic leaders.

On May 2, 2017, President Donald Trump tweeted: "FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds!"

If someone on the White House staff had bothered to enlighten Trump about the basic policies and procedures of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, perhaps he would have known that Comey was very likely to chronicle a private dinner with the president. McCabe also rejected the idea that a special prosecutor was needed, as the FBI hadn't been interfered with and would carry out the investigation scrupulously and thoroughly.

Asked what he thinks of the Trump presidency, Mr Putin said it is up to the American people to judge and his performance can be rated "only when he's allowed to work at full capacity", implying that someone is hampering Mr Trump's efforts. "We know specifically that the framers argued about this", Freedman said. That's consistent with Comey's account of what Comey said next.

White House's National Security Advisor Michael Flynn after he was sacked just 24 days into the job. Clearly, Trump talked to Comey about Flynn.

He's alleged to have told Trump he would neither "let go" of the Flynn investigation, nor pledge his devotion to the Emperor of Mar-a-Lago.
