Red Sox ace David Price struggles in minor league start

"It's not the way I drew it up, but to go out there and throw 30-plus pitches in both of those innings, and still feel the way I did walking off the mound, it's good". His 5.40 career ERA coming in was his worst against any American League opponent, and in three previous tries they had been the only AL club to have evaded defeat at his hand. Told by a pair of specialists that they would've recommended surgery if he were younger, Price instead opted for rest and rehab and Friday marked his first game action since March. "It was just more the command within the strike zone". He wasn't hit particularly hard, but allowed singles to three of the first four batters.

"You have to take this process right here one day at a time", Price said as he waits to see how his elbow feels Saturday.

Only a few days after I wrote a piece about how Dave Dombrowski would be out wheeling and dealing for the Red Sox again, we have our first rumblings of something brewing. "I threw a lot of sinkers and curveballs".

"When he's punching guys out, that's the sign that Sonny is Sonny", catcher Stephen Vogt said. "Even when he had his tough year last year - everybody is going to have a tough year, injuries were involved - the stuff is always there, and he's quite the competitor".

The home runs kept coming in the fourth inning. The Mexican-born hurler gave up nine hits and walked two while striking out six, including Ryon Healy in the opening frame for the first of his career.

Pawtucket rallied from it's early 3-0 hole and scored the tying run in the top of the 9th inning to send the game into extra innings. "When you're constantly behind coming into your first at-bat, it makes it a little more hard".

Shut-down innings proved to be the bane of Velazquez's night. He's pitching decently well in Pawtucket, too, with a 2.53 ERA over 10 ⁄3 innings with nine strikeouts and two walks.

He lasted two innings and labored through 65 pitches while surrendering a home run and bases loaded two-run single to Buffalo.

"That does a lot for Sonny as well, to keep fighting back - scoring runs". We will not know when he will pitch another rehab start or jump right back up to the majors until after the Boston Red Sox finish their West Coast game against the Oakland Athletics.

Baseball and Central Mass. go way back - to the 1860s. The home run was Moreland's 17th all-time against Oakland and 12th at the Coliseum. It proved unnecessary, however, as Liam Hendriks, Frankie Montas, Daniel Coulombe and Ryan Madson combined to post three zeroes to secure Gray's first win of the season. In 11 games for Atlanta this season, he hit.375 (3-for-8).

"We did a lot of good things today".
