Local area adults, teens, and children will be able to explore all things building and construction as Fannin County Public Library presents "Build a Better World" during their summer library program.

The Summer Reading Program is a project of the California Library Association and part of California's statewide summer reading outcomes.

This program was created to help kids keep their minds active while on summer break from school. Activities will include stories, crafts, music, movies, puppet shows, guest entertainers, and more. The theme this year is "Build a Better World".

You can find information about all the programs at www.sterlingcolo.com, www.facebook.com/sterlingpubliclibrary80751 or by calling the library at 970-522-2023.

The Read Off Your Fines campaign will run through August 19 in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program.

The options for the achievements are either reading for 25 hours or days or reading 25 books this summer.

"Encouraging them to stay active intellectually and physically helps to prevent what's known as the 'summer slump, ' that tendency for children's reading and other skills to backslide during the summer months", said Heggestad.

The goal of the annual program, which runs until July 28, is to encourage reading during the period when children are not in school. In addition, there will be plenty of opportunities to earn more tickets by doing additional reading or completing further activities. Adults who read three books also can win prizes.

The Library will host a kick-off event for the Summer Reading Program at the Sacramento River Cats game on Friday, May 26.

"We have moved away from programs that require people to meet at a particular time and toward passive programming that allows people to participate in their own time", said Sanchez.

Tuesday, June 6 @ 10:30 am: Denise Gard and her dogs Joey and Sienna will perform!
