President Trump condemns 'Islamist extremism' in Arab capital

But even as he addressed the Muslim world on Sunday, his administration is continuing to defend the executive order Trump signed to bar visitors from six Muslim-majority countries, which was blocked in U.S. federal court amid criticism that the order is Trump's attempt to fulfill his campaign promise to ban Muslims from the US.

Trump's signature phrase "radical Islamic terrorism" was not included in the speech, according to excerpts released in advance by the White House. "Muslim majority countries must take the lead in stamping out radicalization".

Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries kicked off summit talks in Saudi capital Riyadh on Sunday.
