Ed Woodward believes Manchester United are making "tremendous progress" under Jose Mourinho despite missing out on a place in the Premier League's top four.

Late drama ensued after Facundo and United's Eric Bailly were sent off, reducing both the sides to 10 men, and the Red Devils just about survived the Spanish scare.

That means their only hope of Champions League qualification rests with beating Ajax in Stockholm on May 24 - and Mourinho has rotated players in Premier League matches in recent weeks as he has plotted his way through the Europa League.

Net debt rose by £17.6 million to £366.3 million, which the club said was due to the strengthening United States dollar.

"What I want from the players is a good attitude, positive attitude, positive approach, team spirit, an understanding that some guys have to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others", he said.

"(Daley) Blind played today after 90 minutes on Thursday.

Pogba's absence probably doesn't change things too much for United, as it was quite likely he wouldn't start anyway.
